Sidekick Basics
Sidekick Mode
Sidekick can be enabled or disabled for your event. When disabled, attendees experience the regular, standard Amego app. When enabled, Sidekick is present throughout the app, including in the navigation bar.
This setting is available so you can dictate how much AI drives the experience. Some organizers turn Sidekick off for smaller or more straightforward events where a curated agenda and static content already cover what attendees need, or when they're not ready to introduce AI-generated suggestions to their audience yet. Enabling it is the right call when you want Sidekick doing the work of matching attendees to the right sessions, people, and content, instead of leaving them to find it all themselves.
Sidekick Chat
Sidekick Chat has three settings: Always On, Always Off, and Show in Sidekick Menu.
This setting determines how much open-ended AI conversation you want available, versus Sidekick sticking to curated suggestions. Always On puts chat front and center for the whole event, which is useful when attendees are likely to have a lot of in-the-moment questions ("where's the nearest coffee," "what's happening right now") and you want an answer always one tap away. Show in Sidekick Menu keeps chat available but tucked inside the Sidekick menu rather than always on screen, so attendees who want it can find it without it crowding everything else in the app. Always Off turns chat off entirely, when the organizer would rather Sidekick stick to structured, pre-approved suggestions (feed items, recommendations) than open-ended conversation.
Content Excluded from Recommendations
This setting lets you select elements, such as sessions, speakers, and sponsors, that you don't want suggested to attendees. You can choose what to exclude manually, or use the "Suggest with Sidekick" tool to help identify candidates.
Use this setting to keep Sidekick's suggestions focused on the most important and relevant information about your event. It's most often used to eliminate suggestions like registration, meal, snack, and coffee times, and general breaks, so attendees are pointed toward content worth their attention.
Enable Sidekick Opt In
This setting determines whether attendees have the choice to opt in or out of using Sidekick. Selecting "Yes" gives attendees the option to use, or not use, the AI version of Sidekick during their event experience. Selecting "No" means all attendees get the same Sidekick experience, with no opt in or opt out choice.
If you select "Yes," you can fill out the Opt In Text to inform attendees about what they're agreeing to. For example:
"This feed uses AI to create personalized recommendations and guide you through our event. Please agree to proceed. You can manage options by visiting More > My Info."
This setting matters because Sidekick's recommendations run on attendee data — background, interests, location, session activity — and not every attendee wants an AI making suggestions based on that, even when it's useful. If your event doesn't need that layer of choice, "No" keeps the experience consistent for everyone.
