Chat groups give attendees a place to talk together, not just one-on-one. Each group works like a shared feed for a topic, a track, a community or the whole event. A social wall, a first-timers group or a channel for a single sponsor's booth are all good uses.
Before You Start: Creative Assets
Each chat group needs an image. It appears next to the group name in the app and in the chat group list in CMS. Have these ready before you build your groups:
- Group image: Must be a square WEBP
- Group name: keep it short enough to read on a phone screen
Tip: A simple, high-contrast icon or logo works best, because the image displays small. If you're making several groups, give them a consistent visual style so they look like a set in the app.
How to Create a Chat Group
- In CMS, go to Networking in the far left nav bar.
- Select the Chat Groups tab.
- Click New Chat Group +.
- Enter your Group Name and upload a group image.
- After, select your desired audience in Audience Segmentation.
- Select Save.
Your new group appears in the Chat Groups list. To change it later, click Edit next to the group.
Audience Segmentation
By default, a chat group is open to all attendees who have opted in to networking. If a group is meant for a specific audience, such as VIPs, speakers or one attendee type, you can limit it to certain attendee types or tags. Only those attendees will see the group and be able to join it.
Downloading Photos
If attendees share photos in a group, click Download Photos next to that group in the Chat Groups list to save them all at once. This works especially well for a social wall, where you can collect attendee photos for your post-event recap.
Moderating Chat Groups
To keep conversations on track, assign one or more moderators. Moderators can remove messages and manage participants.
- Go to Attendees > Attendees.
- Click Edit next to the attendee.
- Check the Moderator box and select Save.
General Notes
- Chat groups only appear for attendees who have turned on networking in the app.
- You can manage Chat Groups at any time, including mid-event, without republishing your app.
